Plant Backpacks were invented by artist and designer Jessica Frelinghuysen in the summer of 2010. It started with one idea of traveling with a plant around the city. It has since expanded and will continue to expand to reach many communities around the world. This summer I am in North Carolina developing them with the community surrounding Penland and Yancy County.
Jessica lives in Hamtramck, Michigan. A small town within the city of Detroit. She has shown work around the world and teaches at various schools including the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan.
